Ajax Convention Centre Winter Wedding | Jaime & Matt | Love Photos Ajax Wedding Photographer

Jaime and Matt, just like Ronak and I are high school sweethearts. Hearing the stories during the speeches definitely put a smile on my face as I was drawing on so many parallels with my relationship with Ronak; which made the wedding so special.

I shoot many more weddings in the summer and fall than in the winter, so whenever I get a chance to photograph a winter wedding it makes it that much more special. With that there are also many more challenges, from frozen fingers and toes, to very early sunsets, often overcast skies and to very harsh lighting conditions (all that snow reflects light). For Jaime and Matt’s wedding however everything was as perfect as can be, the temperature, cold but not typical February cold, the sunset, perfectly timed with the photos and events of the day, the sky, not a cloud in sight and the lighting - nothing that a little extra flash couldn’t solve.

For the wedding photos we decided on using the Whitby Marina as a backdrop, it ended up being perfect as it was a nice half way point between the Church in Newcastle and the Ajax Convention Centre. Just in time for the wedding most of the snow melted from the walkways which made access easier (the snow was ankle deep just a week before) and it provided a nice and unobstructed view of the setting sun.

Whenever I schedule an outdoor shoot in the winter I am always concerned about the well being and comfort of the couple. Although it was fairly warm for a February evening (low single digits) the lake breeze made it feel much colder. Jaime and Matthew braved the cold and really took advantage of the gorgeous sunset.

The rest of the night was just as memorable with lots laughter, dancing and a highly competitive game of flip cup.
