Beautiful, breathtaking & extraordinarily fun, are just a few words that come to mind when I think back to Samantha and Mike’s wedding at the Eglinton Grand in Toronto.
The Eglinton Grand is a 1930’s style movie theater and a historic landmark in the City of Toronto. The theatre, now converted into an event venue holds true to the charm of the age while boasting service that is second to none.
Samantha and Mike’s movie wedding theme was “some like it hot” with both the ceremony and the reception taking place in the large open hall. Couples can also choose to get married in the “chapel” which is the old projection room, otherwise the main hall is divided with a white curtain.
Samantha and Mike opted for a reveal, which we as wedding photographers see about half of our couples choose. It breaks tradition but it also makes for a smoother day as the couple can have that intimate moment all for themselves and then they can get the majority of the photos done before the ceremony. This usually alleviates the pressure of doing formal family photos, bridal party photos and the photos of the bride and groom in the 60 to 90 minutes between the ceremony and the reception.
Speaking of photos; because the venue is so unique there many options for various photos both inside and outside of the theatre. Because of the location, one can expect some photos out on the street on Eglinton ave. There are also multiple parks and green areas within a few minutes drive of the venue but most require permits.
I think one of the coolest aspects of the Eglinton Grand is how they handle introducing the newly wed couple. After the ceremony all of the guests are ushered to the upper portion of the Theatre which blocks the main hall/dance floor with a curtain. The bride and groom come in and start their first dance, shortly thereafter the curtains open for everyone to see the dance from the balcony; simply an awesome concept.
Overall I think it’s safe to say that Samantha and Mike got the movie star wedding that they wanted while receiving movie star worthy treatment. Enjoy the rest of the Photos.
